Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation Board received what they described as a “generous contribution” from the estate of Dick and Patricia Warren of Hoquiam.

The Warrens won $40 million — after taxes — in the Washington State lottery in 2002. The foundation said the couple wanted to make donations that would greatly affect the community.

“We are humbled and grateful for the Warren’s gift and determined their legacy will live on by helping the residents of Grays Harbor County,” said Randy Ross, Chairman of the Grays Harbor Community Hospital Foundation. “This gift will impact the entire community for many years as well as establish a strong base for the Foundation.”

The foundation is currently assisting the hospital with the purchase of a MRI machine to allow patients to be tested at the hospital and not transported to a nearby imaging facility.

It has already helped with construction of the current 15,000-square-foot emergency room, purchased several portable EKG machines and helped to fund updates to the lobby and second-floor surgical waiting area.

On Friday, Sept. 9, in collaboration with the Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties United Way, the foundation will host the sold-out 11th Annual Tee it Up for Tots Golf Tournament at Ocean Shores Golf Course. Later in the fall is the second annual Evening of Hope Gala, Nov. 12 at the D&R Event Center.
